|Announcement - Winter Challenge 2011 Adventure Race – 14th August 2011|
Adventure Junkie are excited to announce a new 8 hour Adventure Race in Victoria. This race includes navigation, kayaking, mountain biking and trekking.
Two different courses are being prepared to challenge teams of two –
1. the Pro course with an overall distance under 90km (maximum distance through all CP's) and an expected winning time under 6 hours, and
2. the Lite course - without any kayaking stage - with an overall distance under 60km (maximum distance through all CP's) and a winning time of approximately 4 hours.
The date for your diaries is Sunday 14 August 2011. The exact location – to be announced about 1 week prior the start - is about 180 km north of Melbourne.
There is $1000 prize money for the Pro course and six free entries to our next event in December, up for grabs. There may be extra prizes in all six categories (Mixed, All Male & All Female on both courses), but this has still to be confirmed.
An extra $1000 will be exclusively distributed by Melbourne Adventure to MA members competing in each category of the Pro course (only), 1st $200, 2nd $100, 3rd $50. (Note: Both team members need to have joined MA!)
This race entry fee will include good maps, electronic timing, and transportation of participants equipment to the transition area. The race will involve simple navigation on kayak and mountain bikes, but it gets a little harder during the trekking/running stage.
Registration is now open. Hurry, entry spots are limited to the first 50 teams!
Adventure Junkie is a new initiative of two adventure racers, originally from Russia – Maria and Serge. Both have competed internationally over the last five years. With this experience, they hope to bring some great new ideas and formats into Australian Adventure Racing. They are not new to race organisation either - they have been running lots of events overseas, including the 3 day winter Tahko Adventure Race, in Finland, and Salomon Trail Running, in Moscow. You can be sure that their experience & enthusiasm will be there for all to see at the Winter Challenge 2011.
